Manufacturing strength, investment and customer excellence

Evolving economic conditions and shifting global supply chain patterns elevated the role of local manufacturing throughout 2025. For W&S Plastics, it was a year of strategic investment and measurable capability uplift, strengthening and extending our contribution to Australia’s advanced manufacturing capacity.

Throughout the year, our teams in Australia and Malaysia progressed along parallel paths, scaling capacity, building workforce capability, embedding advanced technologies, strengthening sustainability practices and deepening customer relationships. The results were tangible: sustained growth, improved performance, and formal recognition of our approach to innovation and customer service.

Expanding capability

Demand for locally produced, extremely large and complex molded components increased this year, as customers sought greater supply chain quality and reliability. We invested in two additional 450-tonne machines and in a new 750-tonne injection molding machine which increased capacity in this size range by 50% and improved flexibility and lead times across key projects. We also continued to invest in all-electric and hybrid injection molding machines, which deliver higher precision, improved process control and reduced environmental impact.

Technology integration, driving performance and consistency

Robotics and automation continued to play a central role in our operations, supporting everything from repetitive processes to complex assembly work. These technologies continue to streamline workflows, improve safety, and deliver greater consistency across production, enabling skilled technicians to focus on problem-solving, optimisation, and innovation.

Digital project management tools also remained essential, providing real-time visibility across complex NPI projects, supporting milestone tracking and ensuring transparent collaboration between our Australian and Malaysian teams.

Building workforce capability

Developing workforce capability remained a core focus throughout 2025. Our ongoing investment in training, apprenticeships, and on-the-job development continues to build the next generation of manufacturing talent. In Australia, we strengthened our teams with new roles across Maintenance, Quality, Warehousing, and Die-setting, including the addition of Ian to our Maintenance team, Tracey and Nadeem to our Warehousing team, Pete and Sonny to our Production team and Ian and Miley to our Engineering and Quality teams. In Malaysia, we expanded our leadership and technical capability with the appointment of William as Assistant General Manager, Kenny as Senior Project Engineer, Nurul as QA Engineer and Afiqah as Inventory Controller.

We also celebrated women in manufacturing and the contributions of women across W&S Plastics on International Women’s Day 2025. Their stories, from leadership in planning and quality to technical roles in engineering, printing and process improvement, highlight the depth of expertise within our team and the importance of diverse perspectives in driving innovation and continuous improvement.

Responding to customer interest in sustainability and traceability

This year brought growing customer interest in how materials were sourced and tracked. Both our Australian and Malaysian sites maintained ISCC PLUS certification, giving customers confidence that bio-based or recycled materials were tracked throughout the production process. Our digital project tools and PRONTO ERP system further supported this, recording the information needed to show how components were produced and providing traceability from start to finish.

Industry recognition

While our continued investments and innovations shaped the year, 2025 also offered a moment to reflect on the standards we uphold. Sharing the news of our recognition as Cabot’s Supplier of the Year, awarded for 2024, reinforced industry confidence in our commitment to precision, collaboration and continuous improvement. The award was for our contribution to the highly successful Cabot’s EasyDeck Applicator, reflecting the systems, processes, and people that underpin the quality we strive for across all production.

Malaysia’s growth reinforcing our regional strength

In Malaysia, our operations continue to accelerate, powered by state‑of‑the‑art cleanroom facilities, advanced testing capabilities, and a highly skilled technical team dedicated to exceptional quality. The site continued to deliver specialised services, including pad printing, laser marking, ultrasonic welding, and two-shot molding, while maintaining ISO 14001, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, ISCC PLUS certification and a structured approach to training. The team also remained active in community and environmental initiatives, demonstrating a strong commitment to local engagement.

Working with MIDA to Bring More Value to Our Customers

Our W&S Plastics Malaysia team work closely with MIDA (Malaysian Investment Development Authority) to support customers’ growth and expansion plans.

Through this collaboration, we are able to:

  • Support customers with investment-related guidance when they explore setting up or expanding operations in Malaysia.
  • Facilitate discussions with MIDA on incentives, grants, and approvals that may benefit your manufacturing or R&D activities.
  • Accelerate project timelines by helping customers navigate processes like cleanroom setup, manufacturing licensing, and facility expansion requirements.
  • Provide a smoother entry into the Malaysian market, supported by our local presence and understanding of regulatory pathways.

We are committed to partnering not only in manufacturing but also in helping customers build a long-term, sustainable presence in Malaysia.

Excellence in medical device manufacturing

Demand for high-precision, compliant, and quality-assured components remained strong, and our teams continued to refine processes, strengthen validation pathways, and expand cleanroom capability. Across Australia and Malaysia, we delivered complex medical device components supported by advanced testing capabilities, robust traceability systems, and disciplined quality management. These efforts reinforced customer confidence and ensured W&S Plastics continued to meet the evolving regulatory, safety and performance expectations of medical device manufacturers.
